Disney Wonder
Disney Wonder Cruise: A Magical Journey from Brisbane, Australia.
It had been two decades since our last adventure aboard the Disney Wonder in the Bahamas. Back then, our children were 7 and 10 years old, and it was an incredible experience for the whole family.
As we arrived at the Brisbane Cruise Terminal, we were greeted by warm and engaging staff. The check-in process was swift, and before we knew it, we were stepping aboard the ship. Ready for our 4 nights cruise from Brisbane to Sydney and retune on the 11 December 2023. I would describe Disney Cruises as a Luxury Family Cruise Line.
The Disney Wonder, with its 88,000-ton size and capacity for around 2,500 passengers, felt just right. It's small enough to stroll around comfortably. Despite its nearly 24 years of service, the ship remains in immaculate condition, a testament to Disney's commitment to maintenance and upkeep.
The buffet at Cabana's was pleasantly uncrowded, offering a variety of delicious food and complimentary beverages like tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
Dining was a highlight of our cruise experience. There are three main restaurants, and they employ rotational dining with the same wait staff. Dinner was not just a meal but an interactive experience for both staff and guests, making Disney truly immersive for the entire family.
1. Animator's Palate
2. Triton's
3. Tiana's Place
The ship featured multiple shows and movie screenings throughout the day and evening, each lasting around 1 hour and 15 minutes. There were both new releases and beloved classics, making it enjoyable for everyone. And, weather permitting, you could witness spectacular nightly fireworks. Along with meet and greet character sessions around the ship and in the Atrium.
On days at sea, there was an abundance of activities to choose from, including trivia, bingo, and craft sessions. If you needed some adult time, you could entrust your kids to the kids' clubs.
Shopping was a delightful experience on Disney cruises, with limited-edition merchandise. It seemed like everyone on board was donning something Disney-related throughout the voyage.
The cabins are cosy and well-maintained. Verandas offer comfortable seating and a low table. The bathroom includes a shower over a small bath, suitable for young children, and a separate toilet with a basin and shelving.
Now, let's talk gratuities. The standard practice is approximately $29 per night per couple or $14.50 per person per day, which is divided between your wait staff and stateroom staff. However, as Australians, we opted for a different approach. We gave each staff member cash, allowing them to use it as they saw fit, rather than having it added to their wages. This decision is entirely up to your personal preferences.
